“ Popped into La Vecinidad in Hillcrest for a little treat--was craving their Champarro (Mexican hot chocolate) with churros. The hot chocolate was fine, but the churros? Really good. They were crispy, warm, and had that perfect cinnamon sugar coating and ooey gooey filling. Ended up trying the special for the day--blackened mahi fish tacos were solid. The seasoning on the fish was on point, and they were a step above their regular fish tacos. Definitely a nice surprise. Overall, a chill spot with tasty food, and if you're in the area, it's worth checking out for a casual bite. ”

“ As an LA native, I'm super picky when it comes to tacos, and honestly, most of the ones I've tried in San Diego have been pretty underwhelming. But La Vecindad? Easily some of the best tacos in the city. They actually have that rich, authentic flavor that a lot of places here are missing, and they remind me of the tacos I've had in Mexico. That said, they are expensive. I had this place right after coming back from Mexico City, and the price difference is wild--especially considering that CDMX tacos are even better. For reference, my al pastor tacos ran me about $20, which is steep. But if you're craving solid, well-seasoned, and legit tacos, this spot delivers. Beyond the food, the vibe here is great. The restaurant is super cute, colorful, and has a fun, lively atmosphere right in the heart of Hillcrest. Definitely a good spot to grab tacos and soak in the energy of the neighborhood. Would I come back? Yes. Would I cry a little over the price? Also yes. ”

“ Man if they showed me how they made their micheladas... Amazing mango michelada. I loved the chicken tacos but the steak not so much, I prefer cubed up and small steak in the tacos, and these bites were too hard to get down my throat :( Amazing staff and such welcoming and homey atmosphere. ”

“ Such a cute spot. Service here was some of the best service I've ever received. Our server was on top of it and went above and beyond. The food was great, our table got a large array of food from kids meals, tacos, appetizers, and salads. Each person was incredibly happy with their meal. Their happy hour was large and had good deals, so worth checking that out. Lots of seating indoors and out so it's accommodating to large groups. Highly recommend the steak bowl! Very filling ”

“ The best taco tuesday deal! My favorite tacos in San diego are the costa azul here with the creamy spicy green salsa from the salsa bar. This place has quick friendly service with a smile every time as well. I'm posting another review because i need to update that i still love this place. The Mexico city michelada served with the thick chamoy rim is probably the best michelada i've ever had. I have said that before and i'll say it again lol Also don't sleep on the aguachile! I have tried so many items here and come back at least twice a month. -This is the best hangover spot lol This is a family owned spot and the decorations are lively and welcoming, definitely encourage a fun atmosphere for happy hour with friends:) ”

“ For some reason, we often forget about this place. There are lots of Mexican spots in Hillcrest/Bankers Hill, but every time we go to La Vecindad, we are like why don't we come here more? We are close enough to walk, as parking can be tricky sometimes, but you can usually find something within a few blocks or pay to use the lots across the street. They have great happy hour and Taco Tuesday specials here, and on weekends, they have more secret menu items that are worth checking out. We have had so many different tacos, and they have all been delicious. I would say some tacos are pricier than other area places, but their portion sizes make them a good value still. I can't remember the name of the secret menu item we got this time, but they did it as medium spicy, and it was that perfect blend of flavorful without just being spicy. And of course everyone loves a salsa bar. To wash everything down, I enjoy their skinny margarita. Whether you just need a snack, or you want to leave stuffed, they have you covered. Service is friendly and welcoming. If you haven't been, go check out! ”

“ The service here was great, everyone was friendly and we were greeted immediately. This is a good place to bring people when they're coming to visit from out of town or a place to go to before going out. There is plenty of seating and you order at the counter, perfect for groups. The tacos are pretty big, the chips are warm and fresh. The champurrado was my favorite! ”
